Isol nabs Astrid LIndgren prize

The Argentine illustrator, writer and cartoonist Isol has won the $700,000 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, announced at yesterday’s Bologna Book Fair via a live stream from Lindgren’s home town in Vimmerby, Sweden.
Isol, born Marisol Misenta in Buenos Aires in 1972, is the author of 10 books, the illustrator of 10 other titles, and has been published in over 20 countries.
Judges praised her work’s “energy and explosive emotions”.
They added: “Taking children’s clear view of the world as her starting point, she addresses their questions with forceful artistic expression and offers open answers. With liberating humour and levity, she also deals with the darker aspects of existence.”
