Publishers Association Frankfurt Bulletin

Frankfurt Bulletin Two - Full-on Friday at NZ Stand
Sarah Ropata reports:
A very busy Friday that included speed dating!
First up, it was the Look at the New Zealand Stand event. Around 30 German and other international publishers came to the New Zealand stand for a presentation on NZ publishing and to meet this year’s Kiwi publishers at Frankfurt.
You can see the video they are looking at here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKk_P_UEmCs
Children’s books culture exchange
Also on Friday, eight New Zealand children's book publishers met eight of their German counterparts for a speed dating event. There are ten minutes for each meeting at which each of our publishers presents one title and the German children’s publisher presents one title. The aim of the speed dating is that New Zealand titles are sold in translation to Germany and we in turn publish translations of their titles here.
Representing New Zealand were Random House, Scholastic (via their Australian rights manager), Gecko Press, Clean Slate, Wendy Pye, Oratia Media, Huia and Duck Creek Press.
Party – our wine an attraction
The New Zealand stand party is always extremely popular and once again there was the expected big crush. Hunter wines, a regular and much appreciated feature at the stand party and delicious food were served. Ria Hall and Puawai Cairns, who performed at the New Zealand press conference, were the entertainers.
Kevin Chapman’s German is pretty damned good:
Arts on Sunday interview with Lucy Orbell
Lynn Freeman talked to Ministry for Culture and Heritage's Lucy Orbell after the opening Press Conference at Frankfurt. Lucy, a former radio producer and now Communications Officer with MCH is attending Frankfurt Book Fair this year. The seven minute interview, run on October 16, can be heard here:

My thanks to Auckland University Press for bringing this bulletin to my notice.
