Chatto acquires second by de Waal

04.10.11 | Charlotte Williams - The Bookseller

Chatto & Windus has acquired a second book by the author of the bestselling memoir The Hare with Amber Eyes Edmund de Waal.
Editorial director Clara Farmer bought UK and Commonwealth rights to The White Book: A Journey through Porcelain through Felicity Bryan at Felicity Bryan Associates.
The manuscript is due to be delivered in May 2014, with the title to be published in 2015. Ceramicist de Waal will travel to countries such as China, Italy, Germany and Turkey to find the history of porcelain and man's obsession with it over the past thousand years.
Farmer said: "We couldn't be more thrilled to be working with Edmund on this incredible project. Adoring fans of The Hare with Amber Eyes will be transported into stunning new landscapes by this most miraculous of writers. I hardly dare venture to say it so soon, but I believe that The White Book will be Edmund de Waal's magnum opus.'
Deals have already been concluded with FSG which will publish in North America, and Knopf, which acquired Canadian rights. Foreign rights will be sold at Frankfurt by Andrew Nurnberg Associates
