Bloomsbury is to launch cricketing imprint Wisden in India, signing a long-term licensing deal with sports and entertainment management firm FidelisWorld.
Rights will also be extended to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Middle East and North America, with Wisden India to launch in early 2012.The publisher will release an annual title focusing on all areas of the Indian game, including Test matches, One Day Internationals, the IPL and domestic cricket. The first edition is planned for release in October 2012.
Bloomsbury executive editor Richard Charkin said: "I believe that excellence is the result of always striving to do better. Wisden India will deliver excellence in its reporting of cricket in the sub-continent and will be the independent voice of the next generation of Indian cricket fans."
Wisden India plans to work with media partners to deliver content throughout the year across different platforms, with a Wisden India Hall of Fame also to be introduced.
Charkin and sports and Wisden publisher Charlotte Atyeo will work on Wisden India, along with the existing Wisden editorial and management team in the UK, and FidelisWorld c.e.o. Navneet Sharma, and v.p. cricket, Sanjay Fuller.
Wisden Cricketers' Almanack editor Lawrence Booth said: "The chance to marry Wisden's age-old strengths with the 21st-century home game was simply too good to ignore."
