These words are from poems and stories written for various people and places over the last few years. I’ve taken an essence from those pieces to create a picture of my feelings about home, friendships and whakapapa. The ideas collected here represent my need for a personal mythology – the importance of day dreams.
Antony Deaker is Kai Tahu from Kati Huirapa and of Scottish and Irish descent.
He works as an artist mentor and business coach in the PACE programme and as a writer and P.A. for Maori social and health service providers in Dunedin. He lives with his family in Orokonui overlooking Blueskin Bay where many of these poems are set.
Antony’s poetry has been published in various local journals and books, used by different musicians and composers and in the works of the performance art group Mushroom Orchestra 1999 to 2002.
Antony has also presented exhibitions of sculpture, created ambient soundscapes for Radio and at Festivals and produced various performance art projects at Festivals and on the street.
