Jewish Quarterly and Jewish Book Week present:

Writing East and West
Sunday 30 January, 1.30 pm
Tricycle Cinema

Peter Cole and Adina Hoffman,
chair: Eric Ormsby

An onstage conversation between three writers whose work crosses between East and West, spanning 1,000 years of literature, from the magic of medieval Sephardic poetry to Palestinian lives and letters to the lost and found world of the Cairo Geniza.

Poet and translator Peter Cole is the recipient of this year’s TLS Risa Domb/Porjes translation prize for the highly acclaimed The Dream of the Poem: Hebrew Poetry from Muslim and Christian Spain 950-1492, which Gabriel Josipovici described in the TLS as "A treasure trove, a labour of love and exceptional erudition, which will open up to the reader a world of poetry and culture as rich as anything in human civilization.... [Cole] has produced a book which is by turns moving, charming, and funny.”

Cole is joined by Adina Hoffman, his wife, winner of the JQ’s Wingate prize for her ‘luminous’ biography My Happiness Bears No Relation to Happiness.

Distinguished scholar, poet, and essayist Eric Ormsby will ask questions and participate in the conversation.
