This morning on Radio NZ National I discussed my best holiday reads with Kathryn Ryan. For the record they were:
Fiction – The Leopard – Jo Nesbo – Norwegian crime fiction – 614 pages - Pub. Harvill Secker $49.99 – Pub date 4 Feb.2011
Non-fiction – A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush – Eric Newby – originally pub 1958 – now reissued –Harper Press $28.99
Cookery – Gino’s Pasta Everything you need to cook the Italian way – Gino D'Acampo - Kyle Cathie – Hardback $49.99
And I would have added a fourth but we ran out of time:
Humour – Brideshead Abbreviated –The digested read of the 20thC– John Crace – Random House – Hardback $39.99
And here is Mary McCallum's generous reaction.
It is Mary's turn tomorrow so be sure to be listening to Radio NZ National shortly after 10.30am.

I heard your review of the Nesbo on the radio.
Googling, it seems to be a novel part way through a detective series: can it be read as a stand alone without losing too much, especially vis a vis characterisation?
