Tarzan swings through the trees again.

First published in 1912, Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs is about to be modernised by author, Andy Briggs.  Faber and Faber will release the first book in the new series, Tarzan: The Greystoke Legacy, in 2011. The books will be aimed at children aged nine to eleven.

Apparently the story would be set in and around the Congo. Tarzan will be aged about eighteen and Jane, whose father is part of an illegal logging expedition, will be fourteen.

Jane is to be a modern woman who grew up with technology. She gets lost in the jungle but is Tarzan's equal.  Mr Briggs said: "I think fans of the original books will be pleased – I'm not just straying off and doing something completely different, it's a nod to the original.  It's the same action adventure but with a more modern storyline, and hopefully feels fresh and new."

In the original story, Tarzan is orphaned as an infant when his parents are killed. He is adopted by an ape-mother and encounters his first white Europeans, including Jane, when he is an adult.
