Random gets McEwan's UK e-books

Novelist Ian McEwan's entire backlist is being made available in e-book format by Random House Group UK, after it struck a deal for the digital rights in the UK, Europe and the Commonwealth.

The development comes after McEwan made an exclusive deal in January with Amazon.com, through independent e-book publisher Rosetta Books, for the sale of digital versions of his backlist in the US. At the time, it was reported that the deal doubled McEwan's royalties to more than 50%. RHG declined to comment on the deal struck for the UK e-book rights, but said it was "delighted to have signed the deal on mutually agreeable terms".

Random House said all McEwan's titles, from his new novel Solar to classic novels including Atonement and The Cement Garden, were now available in e-book form via RHG imprints Jonathan Cape and Vintage, which also publish the print editions.

CCV m.d. Richard Cable said: "We are very excited and honoured to be publishing Ian's titles in a digital format for the first time. He has a huge following and we are delighted that readers will now have access to all of his novels and short stories, in whichever format they prefer."
