THE ONLINE-ISATION OF THE WORLD CONTINUES

Two items in the BusinessHerald caught my eye this morning:

1.The Warehouse Group is taking the Red Sheds online.Full story.

2.Amazon, having changed the way consumers buy books, CD's and electronics is now going to enter the grocery market.Full story.

Meanwhile as recently as last week many independent booksellers were still debating as to whether or not to go online, and arguing over the economics of it all.

My message to them is simply this - go digital and get online or perish! You will not be around in 5 years time if you do not.

And relevant to this topic is the following e-mail received over the weekend from a bookseller who is online(!), and impressively so in my opinion.

Hi Graham,

I came upon this quotation last night and it seems particularly apposite with regard to the 'digitisation' debate (a hot topic at conference again).

"In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists"
Eric Hoffer
