FOUR EXCELLENT REASONS FOR READING THE NZ LISTENER THIS WEEK

1.Paul Little’s interview with Australian writer Susan Duncan whose book, Salvation Creek: An Unexpected Life, (Random House $38) has just won the Australian Booksellers Choice Award for favourite book. A remarkable story.

2. Denis Welch’s four page story/interview with great ex-pat Aussie, long-time NYC resident, writer Shirley Hazzard whose Transit of Venus is a contemporary classic.

3. Simon Wilson’s longish, thoughtful review of In Search of Kazakhstan:The Land That Disappeared by Christopher Robbins (Profile Books $38) which some clever sub-editor has captioned Life After Borat!

4. Wellington Master chef Martin Bosley’s beautifully illustrated, double page enthusiastic review of A Year in My Kitchen by Skye Gyngell (Quadrille $65).
One of the recipes he talks about and includes in the review had my positively watering at the mouth – braised oxtail with ginger, five-spice and garlic. Yummy!
Note, this review is in the food section of the Listener not the book section.
