A new novel by Rachel McAlpine celebrates the resilience of Canterbury women




Mrs Zoe Philpott, 70, flees a shattered city and a husband in denial. She has to reconstruct her sanity, her marriage, her happiness and her identity—fast! From friends old and new, she receives a torrent of advice.

Rachel’s books include The Passionate Pen, Real Writing, Humming, and Farewell Speech, a novel about the Christchurch women’s suffrage leaders. She is also a poet and playwright. Rachel (right) went to Christchurch Girls High School and the University of Canterbury, and lives in Wellington.
