Pelican postcards mark imprint relaunch

Penguin is to release a collection of 100 postcards to mark the relaunch of its Pelican list.
Non-fiction imprint Pelican was originally set up in 1937 to bring “intelligent non-fiction” to readers on a “wide range of intellectual interests”. It was discontinued in 1984, but was revived this year, publishing its first five books, on topics including economics and Ancient Greece and Rome, in May.

To celebrate the relaunch, Penguin Press has produced 100 postcards in Postcards from Pelican (Particular Books), each featuring a different jacket from Pelican books throughout the imprint’s history.

Penguin Press said: “From the first Pelicans reflecting the ‘30s passion for design, to the post-war Bauhaus designs, all the way to the ‘60s pictorial simplicity, this new collection of postcards tells the story of Pelican’s evolution, reminding us that sometimes you definitely should judge a book by its cover.”

Postcards from Pelican will be released on 6th November, costing £14.99.
