And What Now?
A companion for when
the unexpected happens
Ros Capper, Illustrated by Jenny
Nicholls
Published by re-inventors, 1 June 2014, RRP $39.99
Ros Capper wrote this book after experiencing business
failure following a phenomenally successful career. The book was to have been released
a year ago, but in a twist of fate was delayed by her husband's cancer becoming
aggressive, requiring immediate intensive treatments. Through these additional
challenging times, Ros found enormous strength from the inspirational book she
had penned for others.
Ros Capper experienced business
success for twenty years before experiencing business failure. Previously known
for co- founding the iconic Tall Poppies consultancy, and responsible for high
profile events which thousands of people attended between 1989 and 2000, this
was a totally new experience for her.
Ros had
specialised in inviting thought leaders from overseas to come to New Zealand to
pass on their knowledge. In 2000 Totem was conceived and designed as a
beautiful space for people to gather around ideas and events in Auckland – to
network, learn and entertain. Beloved by many who chose spaces with natural
light over traditional venues, it closed Christmas 2004.
About the
experience of this devastating loss, Ros says ‘When I began asking “And what
now?” I did not dream of living in my own skin again, being who I am at my best
more often, doing what I love the most. It would have seemed a total fantasy. I
could hardly tell myself what I was feeling back then.’
Ros adds
‘necessity is the mother of re-invention!’ and is the first to admit she made
mistakes and that business loss, as with other life changes – is not a good
feeling at all. So many are impacted and the question ‘and what now?’
reverberates amidst the wreckage.
Her new book
And What Now? is a gentle, beautifully illustrated enquiry from her own
experience of ‘bringing the pieces together again, in a different shape’, designed as a ‘companion when the unexpected
happens’.
Ros has
developed a deep compassion for those asking this question, and even greater
compassion when using her book to help her support her husband during his
treatments for cancer. They live each day intending to ‘make the most of now’.
Jenny
Nicholls illustrates the reinventing concepts, and photographs add to this
different and beautiful red book, small enough to pop into your handbag or
pocket.
