Follett to write 'Pillars' sequel

Pan Macmillan has acquired three new novels by Ken Follett, including a sequel to The Pillars of the Earth.
Publisher Jeremy Trevathan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Barbara Follett at the Follett Office, with the novels being published over nine years from 2017.

The first of the three books will be a sequel to 1989-published The Pillars of the Earth, set in the world of Tudor espionage in Kingsbridge. The second and third books will be “sweeping historical epics”.
Trevathan said: “Ken and his books are very much part of the fabric of Pan Macmillan. I can’t express how excited I am that, in the first book of this new contract, Ken will be returning to Kingsbridge. He is the leading global author of historical fiction and we are incredibly proud and happy to be his publisher.”

Follett said: “Pan Macmillan has been my publisher for a quarter of a century, and we have proved to be a successful team. I’m very pleased that our partnership is going to continue for another decade.”
The deal is the first major multi-book contract the Follett Office has completed since taking over Follett’s agency work last year.
Pan Macmillan will publish the new novels in hardback, trade paperback and mass-market paperback formats.

Follett’s latest book, Edge of Eternity, the final book in his Century trilogy, will be published on 16th September 2014.
The publication will be one of Pan Macmillan’s biggest marketing spends of 2014 and will include outdoor, press, broadcast and digital advertising, as well as a ‘Where were you then’ Facebook app which will weave the real-life memories of Follett’s 300,000 Facebook fans into the tapestry of Edge of Eternity.
