Scholastic NZ has a picture book for 3 to 7 year olds coming
out in March by Yvonne Morrison and Donovan Bixley called The Three Bears (Sort
Of). It’s a really funny take on the fairy tale: a parent telling a child the
story, with interjections from the child throughout (‘but bears don’t eat
porridge!’ ‘bears can’t speak English!’ etc).
We’ll be running a Three Bears Breakfast on Saturday or
Sunday mornings in March at some of the bigger and more kid-friendly libraries
around the country. Nestle have come to the party with food – it will be cold
cereal (Cheerios) and Milo to save the librarians too much hassle cooking
porridge! Meadowfresh have kindly supplied us with milk to go with the
cereal/Milo. Scholastic are providing invitations/posters, a copy of the book
to read aloud and a couple of copies of the book as giveaways/prizes, and a
bunch of colouring-in for kids to do. The librarians we have on board are all
real go-getters and they’ll be adding their own flavour to each event –
decorations, costumes, you name it. Dates are as follows:
Blenheim: 10.00am, Sunday 3 March, Brayshaw Park
Wellington: 10.30am, Saturday 9 March, Wellington Central
Library
Christchurch: 8.30am, Saturday 16 March, Shirley Library
Takapuna: 10.30am, Saturday 23 March, Takapuna Library
Taupo: 10.00am, Saturday 23 March, Taupo Library
