Boots out of the
wardrobe for Sarah Ropata - PANZ Newsletter
It will be spring in Germany for the Leipzig Book Fair running from 14–17
March, and that could mean anything from bitter weather, to warm spring
temperatures – and back again according to Sarah Ropata (left).
In a push to maintain the efforts of New Zealand’s Guest of Honour year at
Frankfurt, New Zealand will be hosting two events at Leipzig, one an evening
presentation with readings by German-based novelist and poet Sarah Quigley.
A 5pm event hosted by New Zealand’s Ambassador to Germany, Peter Rider, will
feature our food and wine, a brief reading and a string quartet to mark the
launch of our 2013 Rights Catalogue in the European market.
The 2013 New Zealand Rights Catalogue will promote new Kiwi titles available
for translation into international languages. The spread of titles is wide,
ranging from Murray Ball’s Dog
cartoons, through picture books, young adult fiction, creative non-fiction,
natural history, self-help, cookbooks, thrillers and literary fiction . . . and
that is over just 32 titles! The catalogue is supported by investment from
Creative New Zealand.
Apart from the events, Sarah has a series of meetings with publishers which
will see her walking the Leipzig exhibition halls, so comfortable footwear is a
must.
