This year the
Auckland Writers & Readers Festival has partnered with the Auckland
Art Gallery to present three separate visual sessions focused around art,
fashion and music.
First up, in It’s All About The Image artist Dick
Frizzell takes us on a personal tour of New Zealand art via an
eclectic mix of major New Zealand paintings, explaining why these
particular works have resonated with him.Around midday you can take an
illustrated romp through New Zealand's history of Black in Fashion with Doris de Pont,
Fashion Museum founding trustee and editor of new book Black: The History of Black in
Fashion, Society and Culture in New Zealand (2012).Then join prize-winning Blue Smoke (2010)
author Chris Bourke as he brings back to life the venues, sounds
and changing dance fashions of the Auckland music scene in his talk Auckland After Hours.
Each talk will be presented by the visual arts writer for Metro Magazine,
Josie McNaught.
These sessions will be held on Sunday May 13, in the Auckland Art Gallery
auditorium. Be sure to book promptly, as seating for these fantastic sessions is
limited.
