Booksellers NZ to run New Zealand Book Month 2012

The team at Booksellers NZ has been appointed to project manage New Zealand Book Month.
March 2012 will be the sixth time that the national celebration of reading has been held.
Booksellers NZ was appointed by the Board of the Book Month Charitable Trust because of their
expertise and experience in managing and delivering major events and projects in the literary sector,
explained Chair Mary Robbins.
“Awarding Booksellers NZ the contract to run both the day‐to‐day needs of New Zealand Book
Month as well as our promotional campaign is a positive sign of our increasing maturity and
acceptance as a growing event. 2011’s event was our biggest and most successful ever. It’s become
apparent that the interest and planning for Book Month is ongoing, and needs a dedicated team to
keep the conversations about the joy of reading books alive all year round,” said Ms Robbins.

A highpoint of New Zealand Book Month is the hundreds of book and reading events that are held in
the towns and cities throughout the country.
“There is an emphasis on New Zealand authors but the main objective is to promote book reading
and literacy. We are looking to expand the community events next year,” said Ms Robbins.
Next year’s event will again see the distribution of four million vouchers, redeemable at bookshops
throughout the country.
Lincoln Gould, Chief Executive of Booksellers NZ, said the project management of New Zealand Book
Month will be exciting, “largely because of the great benefit it brings to communities throughout the
country. We have been involved on the edge of New Zealand Book Month in previous years but now
to be fully engaged in its development is a major opportunity to facilitate its growth”.
