Asterix the Gaul is the latest character to get Where's Wally?-style treatment, with the publication of Where's Asterix? (hb, £8.99) coming from Orion, the series' UK licensor, in September. The book has already been published in France, as Cherche et Trouve Asterix, with several sequels also in the pipeline.Illustrator Albert Uderzo has created the complex spreads, hiding the figure of Asterix, and also featuring the other much-loved characters from the comic novels.
Publicist Nina Douglas said: "We're excited about the way we can see a new generation opening up to the possibilities of Asterix before then moving on to the albums themselves. This book's got all the Asterix humour, and amazingly detailed illustrations. But it's not just for children I looked at a few spreads and I couldn't find him. Booksellers and fans are very excited."
The Asterix series first appeared in 1959 and new volumes continue to appear, despite the death of Uderzo's co-creator Rene Goscinny in 1977. The last new book to appear in English was Asterix and Obelix's Birthday (The Golden Book), published for the 50th anniversary of the series in September 2009.

Awesome, Asterix was one of my first real reading 'loves' at primary school. It was 'Shrek' or 'The Simpsons' or 'The Incredibles' before such TV and movies came along (ie comics/cartoons that could be read and enjoyed by kids, but also had lots of other things going on, layers of humour/satire that adults could enjoy). Great stuff.
