Engadget reports the device, the Wisereader E920 by technology firm Hanvon, will be priced around $500 and features a 9.7 inch colour e-ink panel. It can stay on standby for 15 days and can turn 10,000 pages before needing recharging.
However, the technology blog reported the device has several disadvantages. It said: "The E920's colors are muted and not really on par with what you'd expect from even a mediocre LCD, refresh rates are pretty glacial, and the touchscreen functionality is of the resistive kind, meaning you'll have to resort to using the integrated stylus for navigation."
The reader will be released in China in May with United States consumers likely to be able to buy the reader by June.
