Random House Children's Books has acquired a range of character publishing to accompany a new Dr Seuss-inspired TV series "The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!". The TV series will consist of 80 11-minute episodes and will be shown on CITV and GMTV this autumn.

Fiona Macmillan, colour publisher at RHCB, bought the books from RHCB in the US, acquiring UK and Commonwealth rights for a range of full colour titles including picture and sticker storybooks and non-fiction readers. The books will launch in spring 2011.

"The Cat in the Hat..." TV series will be voiced by actor Martin Short and will see two children, Sally and Nick, going on adventures into the natural science world, such as discovering how bees make honey.

Macmillan commented: "Just as the original and timeless The Cat in the Hat book has introduced generations of chidren to the joys of reading, 'The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!' will encourage children to explore the wonders of science and nature." She added that Dr Seuss was "a globally recognised classic brand" and "adds depth to the overall publishing programme for the RHCB colour and licensed list".
