Sitting pretty
J. D. Salinger, the author of Catcher in the Rye, was, as we reported previously a very private man who for the last 45 years of his life he made no public appearances. However his toilet has just recently been put up for sale for $1 million. The lavatory was made in 1962 and will, apparently be supplied to the buyer “uncleaned”.
According to the listing on eBay it was taken from Salinger’s home prior to his death. The seller purports that it is likely that the author not only thought about some of his writings but may have actually penned them whilst sitting on it.
