TV host and comedian Paul O'Grady has been paid £2 million for the second installment of his autobiography. The fee is twice the advance he was paid for the first novella, At My Mother's Knee and Other Low Points. The nook - O'Grady's first - went straight to the top of last year's non-fiction hardback chart. The Liverpudlian chat show host allegedly demanded the £1 million increase from publishers Transworld after learning that comedienne Dawn French got far more than him for her memoir Dear Fatty, also published by the same company.
Paul's agent Lord Waheed Alli secured the new deal, according to reports in The Mirror. At My Mother's Knee sold 600,000 copies in 2008, more than the memoirs of Julie Walters, Michael Parkinson and Sir Cliff Richard.
