OMG - thats literally just round the corner from me! Do you think the children would notice if i just slipped out for a wee while?

It was very nice to meet you at the Auckland launch of NZ book month. I've been enjoying dropping in on your blog. I especially liked the one about local bookshops in France

cheers
Melinda

Graham,

What an amazing coincidence!

We discovered another cookbook specialist bookshop at Granville Island, Vancouver yesterday! I haven't had a chance to download the picture to you.

Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks
(http://www.bookstocooks.com/) even had a book on cooking up treats for dogs, as well as wine books.

They had a collection of Australian cookbooks, including Stephanie Alexander's bible. sadly short on NZ offerings, which you should rectify.

Eat-A-Bug
Entomophagy (bug-eating) is not uncommon in many cultures. In North America, however, people are recently becoming more interested in the practice as they are looking for alternative food sources as discussed in this article in the Globe and Mail.

Find out more about entomophagy at our Getting Buggy event on Wednesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. Naturalist David George Gordon and Meeru Dhalwala of Vij's will guide guests through the world of entomophagy.

Meeru will prepare a menu of arthropods including crickets, grasshoppers and prawns. David will enlighten guests with his new book, The Eat-a-Bug Cookbook. Tickets are $90. Call 604-688-6755 to register.

It is indeed infrequent that I would want to be in Auckland, but the combination...

on another matter entirely: I have a small hoard of books & many many recipes for entomophagists. And yes, I have tried many different kinds and the odd creature which is generally thrown in with 'insects' but is not - to wit, earthworms, slaters, and a tarantula. Always memorable if not always delicious!
