BOOKMAN BEATTIE APPOINTS HAMISH KEITH TO AUCKLAND CITY ROLE
Hamish Keith is a renaissance man, and without any authority at all I am going to appoint him the “artistic conscience of the city of Auckland”.
Excerpt from The Bookman's review of Hamish Keith's just-published autobiography, Native Wit.

I would be delighted to second your nomination. Hamosh Keith is the perfect man for the job. What a shame so many buildings and artworks have already disappeared.
His book should be compulsory reading for all councillors and council officers!
I think there should be such a role. Great idea. Imaginge that - artistic conscience of the city - and he/she could be a sort of ombudsman. Think of all those gorgeous buildings we would still have - His Majesty's Theatre for example. And today when I walk down Queen Street I weep for the Jean Batten Buidling and what the Bank of New Zealand have done to it.
Yes, Hamish Keith for the inaugural artistic conscience of the city!
