Atlantic Restructures, Supported by Allen & Unwin
The U.K. publisher Atlantic Books Limited has begun the year by announcing "a significant financial and organizational restructuring" which sees the departure of editor-in-chief Ravi Mirchandani and the arrival of Peter Roche as non-executive chairman. Allen & Unwin Australia becomes the majority shareholder. more »


Bauer Heads to Macmillan
Craig Bauer, senior v-p publishing operations and strategic planning at Hachette, will be leaving HBG to become senior v-p of global publishing operations at Macmillan Science and Education, Publishing Trends reports. His last day at HBG will be Friday, January 17. Bauer joins Ken Michaels, who left his post as president and COO of HBG in August to become global chief operating officer for Macmillan Science and Education. more » »

The Algorithm for Literary Success: Computer scientists have developed an algorithm which can allegedly predict with 84% accuracy whether a book will be a commercial success.

Hatchet Job of the Year Finalists : Eight cutting book reviews are in the running for the Hatchet Job of the Year award, run by the Omnivore website. The prize is intended "to promote integrity and wit in literary journalism," with the winner, to be announced on February 11, taking home a year's supply of potted shrimp.

Howey's Publishing Fixes : Indie author superstar Hugh Howey lays out 13 ideas on how he'd fix the publishing industry.

Morrissey wins T.S. Eliot Prize: Sinéad Morrissey has been awarded the T.S. Eliot Prize for her collection, Parallax, finally winning after being shortlisted four times.
Morrissey, who is Belfast's inaugural poet laureate, was previously shortlisted for the prize in 2002, 2005 and 2009.
