Struggling second-hand bookshop owner stunned when his takings soar 4,000 per cent as dozens of customers descend on store after posting about his plight on Facebook

  • Local business owner increases earnings 40 times original profits
  • Usual sales were around £15 a day, but social media upped his business
  • Figures reached £300 for one day, a huge increase from previous amounts

A struggling second-hand bookshop owner who posted about his poor profits on Facebook in a last ditch bid to keep his business afloat has seen his takings soar.
David Ford's usual daily takings at his store in Saltaire, West Yorkshire, were in the range of £14.
Realising his business was starting to flounder, Mr Ford posted his terrible sales figures onto the social-networking site and was amazed by the response.
In just one day his takings increased to an incredible £300 - 40 times what the shop took a few days earlier.

Mr Ford had been steadily losing business since the rise of the online book buying revolution as well as the rise in popularity of the e-book.
He said: 'Now, we have to be more clever about how we sell books. We sell online and we use social media and do all sorts to survive.'
