Penguin UK keeps hold of Sylvia Day

Michael Joseph has held on to Sylvia Day in the UK, snapping up the first books in a new series for 2015 publication.

Last week in the US the author moved from Penguin to Macmillan's St Martin's Press for two new novels, for a reported eight figures.

But Alex Clarke, publishing director of Michael Joseph, has now acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in the two novels from the Blacklist series, which is said to revolve around a young couple in Manhattan. The deal was done with Kimberley Whalen, executive vice president of Trident Media Group. Penguin UK would not comment on the sum involved.

The novels will be published in simultaneous hardcover and digital editions next year.
Day's Crossfire series, made up of Bared to You, Reflected in You, and Entwined With You, propelled Day to become the 24th bestselling author in the UK in 2013, for a value of £3.3m. Alex Clarke said: "Sylvia’s brilliant Crossfire series has become an internationally selling phenomenon… We can’t wait to bring Blacklist to her legions of fans."

Day said: "I couldn't be happier about continuing my wonderful relationship with Alex Clarke and Tom Weldon. We've had a fun and successful collaboration across many novels and genres, and I look forward to exploring the possibilities ahead with the awesome team at Penguin UK."
