New Year's Honours for UK book trade

Authors Anthony Horowitz, K M Peyton and Alanna Knight have been recognised in the 2014 New Year's Honours list. Publisher Peter Owen has also been honoured in the latest list.

 Alex Rider creator Horowitz, also a screenwriter, has received an OBE for services to literature. Meanwhile 84-year-old Peyton, author of nearly 70 books including the Flambards series first published in the 1960s, has been given an MBE for services to children's literature.

 Edinburgh-based Alanna Knight, author of historical crime series including the Inspector Faro mysteries, has also been awarded an MBE, appearing on the honours list under her given name of Gladys Knight.

 Peter Owen, the 86-year-old founder of Peter Owen Publishers, has been awarded an OBE for services to literature. He commented: "This honour is also a recognition of the work my staff, past and present, have put in to help create our distinguished list. Our 60th anniversary in 2011 received wide press coverage and reaffirmed that this company has always punched above its weight, influencing other publishers both in the UK and abroad. It remains the longest-established UK publisher of its kind still owned by its founder."
