DBW 2014: Survey Finds Most Authors Want to Earn More
The Digital Book World/Writer's Digest 2014 survey, discussed at the organization's New York event this week, found that, in spite of the growing popularity of self-publishing--and the attention being paid to it by the consumer press--many authors would, given the chance, still opt for a traditional book deal. The overwhelming number of authors polled also said, not surprisingly, they would like to be earning more money from their writing. more »

Idlewild Lands at Second Brooklyn Location
Although travel bookstores have endured significant challenges as more and more people plan their trips online, five-year-old Idlewild Books in New York City near Union Square has taken off. “Business is very good,” said owner David Del Vecchio. Nook Heads to Australia
Barnes & Noble is now offering the Nook and Nook Store in Australia, bringing the total number of countries where the device and store is available to 32. As a part of the rollout, the company is offering five free bestselling books and five free magazines. The free titles are available for a limited time, exclusively to customers who install the Nook app as a new user, and sign in with a Microsoft account. more » »
