I Am Brian Wilson will be published in 2015, and promises the full story of his life

Brian Wilson is to write an autobiography. According to his own website, I Am Brian Wilson "will describe for the first time the epic highs and lows of his life – from his tumultuous relationship with his father, the loss of his mother and brothers, his fears about live performance, the struggles he faced to lead the Beach Boys away from surf music into groundbreaking, experimental terrain, to his remarkable personal and professional comeback from drug addiction and mental illness with the support of his second wife Melinda".
This may come as a surprise to those who who own Wouldn't It Be Nice, Wilson's 1991 autobiography, which also covered his tumultuous relationship with his father, the loss of his mother and brothers, his fears about live performance, and the struggles he faced to lead the Beach Boys away from surf music into groundbreaking, experimental terrain – though it predates his commercial and critical resurrection in the last decade.
Wouldn't It Be Nice, however, is a controversial book in Wilson lore. It was published during the final months of Wilson's relationship with his therapist Eugene Landy, and covered in glowing terms the musician's unorthodox treatment. Wilson later testified in court that he had neither written nor read the final manuscript of the book, which was written by the journalist Todd Gold.
Landy was eventually barred by court order from any contact with Wilson, after years of legal action by his family and the other Beach Boys. He had made himself far more than Wilson's therapist, adding writing partner, co-producer and financial partner to his job description.
I Am Brian Wilson is due to be published in 2015 by Coronet. It will be written with the journalist Jason Fine.
