Borders to retail cheaper ebook
10.03.09 Catherine Neilan writing in The Bookseller

Borders UK is planning to launch an alternative e-book device to the current iLiad "within the next few weeks", according to group c.e.o Philip Downer. Speaking at this weekend’s IPG Conference, Downer said: "Amazingly we are still selling [the iLiad]... but we are evolving our e-book hardwear offering... Watch this space."

After the event, Downer told The Bookseller: "We were the first to market in May of last year with the iLiad, which is still retailing at £400, but obviously the price point has moved since then. Although we continue to sell devices, a £400 reader isn’t sustainable. We will be looking to introduce something else to the stores in the course of the next few weeks."
Downer declined to say whether the new device would be produced by iLiad manufacturer iRex. "Once the product is shipped and we know the launch date, we will be giving more details," he said.
