New John Lewis ad book for Nosy Crow

Following the success of last year’s The Snowman’s Journey, children’s publisher Nosy Crow has again teamed up with John Lewis to create a picturebook of the retailer’s Christmas TV advert.

The Bear Who Had Never Seen Christmas
tells the story of a hare who endeavors to stop his best friend, a bear, hibernating through winter and missing the Christmas fun. It has already been viewed more than 4.6 million times on YouTube and cost £7m to make.

The corresponding hardback book will be sold exclusively by the John Lewis Partnership for £7.99, with £1.20 from each sale going to Save The Children.

Nosy Crow was approached by John Lewis to put together the book after the success of the book based on last year’s advert, The Snowman’s Journey, which was written within 48 hours.

“Though we had a bit more time than last year, this was a fantastic team effort involving the sort of hard work, speed and flexibility that’s possible in a start-up independent publisher in its first years,” said m.d. Kate Wilson.

Nosy Crow said it worked closely with marketing company Adam and Eve, and had access to specially created background art and character images. The book was written by Wilson and Nosy Crow’s head of picture books, Louise Bolongaro. It was edited by Bolongoro and designed by Stephanie Amster.

The Bear Who Had Never Seen Christmas
is in fact Nosy Crow’s second own-brand picture book this year, as the publisher has also released a book for Radley London, entitled Radley’s Twelve Days of Christmas.

The book features Radley, the Scottie dog which is the emblem of the handbag designer, and is sold at Radley stores and online. Kids Company, that charity that supports vulnerable children, will receive £2 for every book sold.
