Row erupts over prize-winning YA title in NZ Post Children's Book Awards

There are stories in the  Herald on Sunday yesterday and New Zealand Herald today plus editorial in New Zealand Herald on Ted Dawes' controversial self-published title, Into The River.

The Herald coverage follows.

I bought the book after it won the top prize at the NZ Post Children's Book Awards ceremony at the Booksellers Conference in Christchurch last week and must say I was impressed with the author's characterisation skills but suggested to a friend after I had read the book, and before the controversy broke out, that I thought it was really an adult novel featuring children as the main characters.
