Since 1972, the New Zealand Book Council’s passion has always been books – and writers and readers. Its mission is to be a leader in the life-long engagement of New Zealanders in reading, writing and ideas, and to promote and nurture New Zealand writers and writing.

The New Zealand Book Council is looking for a Programme Manager to deliver our highly-regarded education and events programmes. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the post-holder also has responsibility for working with the Chief Executive on delivery of the Book Council’s advocacy programme and deputising for the Chief Executive where appropriate.

The New Zealand Book Council is recognised by Creative New Zealand as a Toi Totara Haemata, a key organisation within this country’s creative sector. Under this mandate, the Book Council’s role is to deliver an integrated programme of activity that works in partnership with publishers and other organisations to promote the reading and writing of high-quality New Zealand literature.

The Programme Manager’s primary objectives are to:
1.            Implement and develop the Book Council’s national education programme
2.            Implement and develop the Book Council’s national events programmes
3.            Support the delivery of a robust and proactive advocacy strategy
4.            Deputise for the Chief Executive when required
