2013
represents the tenth year of the Printer in Residence (PIR) programme at the
University of Otago Library. And over that time some wonderful hand-printed
books have been produced, including works by Brian Turner, Hone Tuwhare, Joanna
Paul, Ralph Hotere, Peter Olds, and overseas representative Lewis Carroll. Many
of these works have been illustrated by artists/printer-makers such as Inge
Doesburg, Joanna Paul, Kathryn Madill, David Elliot, Marilyn Webb, and Mary
McFarlane. To celebrate this achievement, an Open Day will be held on Wednesday
17 July in the reading room at Special Collections, 1st floor,
Central University Library. You are cordially invited to visit and view all
those the PIR publications printed during 2003-2012.
The
2013 project is well under way and rather than feature quotations from 6 NZ
writers, the package will now feature 8. The writers include Jenny Bornholdt,
Riemke Ensing, Charlotte Grimshaw, Bernadette Hall, Fiona Kidman, Elizabeth
Knox, Cilla McQueen, and Emma Neale. And the posters completed so far look
fantastic!
If
you are interested in this last PIR project, please feel free to contact me
direct for details.
