The Engine Room never disappoints

I wrote about this new cookbook last week and Saturday night after viewing the heart-warming French movie, The Intouchables, at the Bridgeway Cinema on Auckland's Northcote Point, we crossed the road for an absolutely delicious dinner. This has been our practice over the six or seven years since Natalia Schamroth and Carl Koppenhagen first opened The Engine Room.

We have never been disappointed with a meal here, Carl is a genius in the kitchen and somehow Natalia seems to be able to pay attention to all customers as they arrive and then find time to go back to each table during the evening for some pleasant chat. They are a winning combination. Be warned though, the pace is hugely popular and you need to book.

Their menu is quite a short one, usually about eight dishes to choose from on the main blackboard for example, but of course if you buy their just-published big bumper new cookbook then you will have anothert hundred or so dishes that you can cook at home.
