CLA creates copyright-scanning app

20.11.12 | Lisa Campbell - The Bookseller

The Copyright Agency has developed an app which allows users to scan the ISN code of a book and find out whether they may legally copy it according to its CLA licence.

The CLA Title Search app delivers what permission users have to photocopy books, magazines and other works “in seconds” and can be downloaded for free. Users can also manually entering the title or ISBN or ISSN details.

Jen Holton, associate director of global rights at John Wiley & Sons publisher said the app was “great news” for publishers. “Naturally, publishers are concerned that CLA represents their rights and mandates effectively and that end-users respect their copyright,” she said.
Kevin Fitzgerald, c.e.o of CLA, added: “The CLA Title Search app is a great example of something that achieves that balance and further simplifies the licensing process.”

It is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
