Simon & Schuster Announces Third Jo Nesbø Children's Title

Press Release

Simon and Schuster Children's Books today announced the acquisition of a third Doctor Proctor young fiction title from bestseller Jo Nesbø. Jane Griffiths, editor at S&S UK, concluded the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights with Leyla Belle Drake at the Salomonsson Agency. Aimed at children aged 7+, Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder: The End of the World. Maybe is due for publication in 2012.

Jo Nesbø is the most successful Norwegian author of all time, best known for crime bestsellers including The Snowman and The Leopard. His adult novels have sold millions of copies worldwide and he has been nominated for numerous awards. His debut children's book, Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder, sold more copies in his native Norway than any other children's debut, and rights have been sold in more than 25 countries, including the US.
S&S launched Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder in March 2010. The book was subsequently chosen for the WHSmith Richard & Judy Children's Book Club in early 2011 and is to date the bestselling title in the promotion. The second in the series, Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder: Time-travel Bath Bomb was published in April this year.

Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder: The End of the World. Maybe is the third adventure starring the zany Doctor Proctor and accomplices Nilly and Lisa, and is packed with crazy inventions, super-sonic bottom burps and intergalactic mayhem! The book has already been published in Norway (2010) and was a national No.1 Bestseller across all categories including adult fiction, an unprecedented achievement for a children's book in Norwegian publishing history. The book was the bestselling children's title of last year in Norway and won the prestigious 2010 Norwegian Critics' Prize for Literature: Best Children's Book of the Year.

Alongside the launch, the Natural History Museum in Oslo created an exhibition based on a book within the novels called Animals You Wish Didn't Exist which attracted thousands of visitors.
Of the new acquisition Griffiths says: "I'm really excited to have signed up another Doctor Proctor novel from the wonderful Jo Nesbø. With a perfect mix of weird inventions, crazy characters and even crazier situations, we're sure that this third novel of the Fart Powder series will continue to grow Jo's success as a children's writer."
