NEW YORK – New England writer Edith Pearlman has won the PEN/Malamud Award for excellence in the "art of short fiction."
The PEN/Faulkner Foundation announced the honor Wednesday. Books by the Brookline, Mass., resident include "How to Fall" and "Binocular Vision." Her work has been released by Lookout Books, Sarabande Press and other small publishers. As this year's award winner, she will receive $5,000.
Previous winners include Saul Bellow, John Updike and Eudora Welty. The award is named for the novelist and short story writer Bernard Malamud, best known for "The Natural."
