Australian Bookseller & Publisher
Walker Books Australia has announced that it has acquired the Black Dog Books imprint.
Effective 1 July, Black Dog Books will be an imprint of Walker Books with current Black Dog Books publishing director Maryann Ballantyne taking on the role of publisher.
Current Black Dog Books managing director Andrew Kelly will take on a new role as publisher and director of Red Dog Books, which publishes adult titles, and Wild Dog Books, which publishes photographic nonfiction for young readers.
Sarah Foster, MD and publisher of Walker Books Australia, said in a statement: 'I have long admired what Andrew Kelly and Maryann Ballantyne have achieved with the Black Dog Books list--it will be a real addition to our local publishing offering and we are all really looking forward to working with Maryann.'
Ballantyne said 'This is a great fit for Black Dog. Andrew and I are so pleased that the Black Dog Books imprint and Black Dog's authors and illustrators will be able to go from strength to strength under the Walker umbrella.'
Kelly wrote on his blog today that Walker Books 'is the perfect place for Black Dog's authors and illustrators'.
'It is a like-minded imprint and this is an opportunity for the list to grow,' said Kelly. 'I would like to thank all the terrific people I have worked with, both those clever and creative people who have, and are, working within the kennel and those cleaver and creative people who were outhouse. I have learned a huge amount and there is yet more to learn.'
