TRULY ASTONISHING SALES FOR NZ CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK
I suspect that The Wonky Donkey may have achieved the greatest ever sales of a NZ picture book in the first year of publication. The Wonky Donkey was pubished in October 2009 so the NZ sales figures below have been achieved in just eight months. And of course these are NZ sales figures only, the title has also been published in Australia and the US and I understand total sales now exceeed 70,000 copies.
Thanks to the kind folks at Nielsen BookScan who have provided the following sales figures which are are from Dec 2008 when the Nielsen BookScan panel began.
The Wonky Donkey Smith, Craig Scholastic New Zealand 27,704
Perky the Pukeko Osment, Michelle Little Friends Pub. 9,943
