Friday 19 February : An Evening with Marina Lewycka
Ukrainian born author of A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian & will be in Christchurch with her new novel - Two CaravansWe Are All Made of Glue.

Marina was born in a refugee camp in Germany and grew up in England and is now based in London. She is married to a NZ’er. Her writing is full of compassion & good humour, with wonderful quirky characters. In her latest book, journalist, Georgie Sinclair , writes articles for Adhesives in the Modern World, & when she spots Mrs. Shapiro, an eccentric old Jewish emigre neighbour with an eye for a bargain & a fondness for matchmaking, rummaging through her skip in the middle of the night, It's just the distraction she needs. It's the beginning of a fascinating friendship between these two very different women

Back in NZ from London, with a new book from her recent research talking to people living in China, Message from an Unknown Chinese Mother.

Born in Beijing Xiran is a successful journalist & broadcaster - The Good Women of China was her first book which told stories of women in rural China in the 20th century. She moved to London in 1977. If you missed her in 2008, at the ChCh Writers' Festival, another chance to hear this amazing woman. Not to be missed.
Monday 8 March: An Evening with Elizabeth Kostova
International bestselling author of The Historian, with a new historical novel, The Swan Thieves

Thursday 25 March: An Evening with Andrea Levy
With her latest novel. She was the winner of the Orange Prize for women writers, with The Small Island

The Small Island was the story, told in fiction, of her parents' migration to London from Jamaica, in the 1950s.
Andrea was born in London and has a delightful, witty style of writing. She enjoys acting out the characters in her stories
