BRETT WHITELEY - TORTURED GENIUS
This afternoon we viewed the Whiteley Gardens Exhibiion at the Newcastle Region Art Gallery and afterwards at the small gift shop I bought Brett Whiteley Studio a handsome and prolifically illustrated book published by the Art Gallery of New South wales
The book is an appropriate tribute to this truly great Australian artist who died in 1992 at the age of 53.

Brett Whiteley was a passionate and gifted artist who three times won the Archibald Prize. In 1978 he not only won The Archibald but also the Wynne Prize and the Sulman Prize, the only artist to have won all three prestigious prizes in one year.
Pic shows Whiteley in his studio, (an old t-shirt factory), which is also the book's cover illustration.
