A is for Aotearoa

A is for Aotearoa
Diane Newcombe & Melissa Anderson Scott
Picture Puffin - $25.00

Discover Aotearoa in this fun lift-the-flap treasure hunt. It is a unique and gloriously handmade package, celebrating our beautiful country
from A to Z.

Join Girl and Bird on an adventure around New Zealand, and help them follow the clues for where they will go to next. From city to shore, north to south and east to west, you’ll see some familiar places, and discover some that are new to you.

The story starts with a bottle containing a secret message, washed up on a beach in Auckland, the place where the alphabet treasure hunt starts. The bottle begins a trail of clues, and at each letter the reader must lift the flap to reveal the clue, which helps them guess where they are.

With quirky, characterful illustrations, this engaging picture book is a fun and interactive
way for children to discover different places in New Zealand. It celebrates our rich history,
culture, diversity and physical beauty in a gloriously handmade format. Included is a
glossary/solutions page with interesting facts about each location.

A is for Aotearoa is a must-have for tourists, and for every New Zealand home.

More about Diane Newcombe & Melissa Anderson Scott
A is for Aotearoa is writer Diane Newcombe and artist Melissa Scott Anderson’s second
collaboration, following on from A is for Auckland (2013). The pair are long-time friends
from when their children were at Playcentre; now they both enjoy sharing books with their
grandchildren. Both have completed children’s literature courses to retrain in this field, and
both have a real passion for producing New Zealand-related books for our kids to identify
with. Diane and Melissa had a lively time creating A is for Aotearoa, which answers the
eternal questions, ‘who, what, where?’ with a Kiwi accent!
