Margaret Scott R.I.P.

C.K.Stead writes:

It would be good if the death  of Margaret Scott could be mentioned.

She was the Turnbull Library’s Mansfield expert and major transcriber of her difficult manuscripts for many  years, and produced the two volume Mansfield Notebooks.

She was the widow of Harry Scott, a very notable senior lecturer in Psychology at the University of Auckland killed in a mountaineering accident in the early 1960s.
That death left Margaret with three children to bring up, one of them, Jonathan, now head of the Auckland University History Department, and another, Rachel, now in charge of Otago Univeristy Press.

Margaret wrote a very good little book, Recollecting Mansfield, which also contains material about her association with Charles Brasch.
She has been joint editor with Vincent O’Sullivan of the Mansfield Collected Letters.
