The Bookman's recently read, and greatly enjoyed, crime fiction/ thrillers - not a dud among them !

The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair
Joel Dicker
MacLehose - $37.99

This 620 page whopper has been a phenomenal bestseller in the UK and Europe and I am not at all surprised as it is a brilliant murder mystery with dozens of twists and also a unique love story. I couldn't put it down.
The author was born in Geneva in 1985 and this title won the Grand Prix du Roman de l'Academie Francaise and the Prix Goncourt des Lyceens. Translated from French by Sam Taylor.
I think authors and would-be authors will find this novel especially interesting.

Buried Angels
Camilla Lackberg
Harper Collins - $29.99

The glamorous and savvy Calilla Lackberg was a star turn at the recently concluded Auckland Writers Festival, (thanks to Harper Collins for brining her here).
This title, her eighth, again features Detective Patrik Hedstrom and his wife, crime writer Erica Falck. This time they are investigating a cold case from back in 1974 when an entire family vanished from their home on an island off the Swedish coast. Another engrossing biggie at nearly 500 pages.
Lackberg is described as the hottest female writer in Sandinavia and has sold over 12 million copies of her books worldwide.

The Collector
Nora Roberts
Hachette - $37.99

The prolific best-selling author has done it again with another 500 page thriller filled with murder and suspense.
The protagonist is Lisa Emerson, a house sitter, who loves looking after glamorous and sophisticated homes while their owners are away on holiday or business. Then one day she witnesses the brutal and shocking murder of a young woman living across the street in New York where she is house sitting. Rivetting.

One Step Too Far
Tina Seskis
Michel Joseph - $37.00

Is running away ever the answer?
An apparently happy marriage.  A beautiful son.  A lovely home.
Yet one morning Emily Coleman wakes up and walks right out of her life.  What makes her do it?  How will she survive?  And, no matter how hard she tries, can she ever really say goodbye to her past?
Emily has a secret.
No-one has ever guessed it. I didn't.
Gripping & rather haunting.

Eeny Meeny
MJ Arlidge
Penguin - $37.00

The girl emerged from the woods, barely alive.  Her story was beyond belief.  But it was true.  Every dreadful word of it.
Days later, another desperate escapee is found - and a pattern is emerging.  Pairs of victims are being abducted, imprisoned then faced with a terrible choice: kill or be killed.

Detective Inspector Helen Grace leads the investigation to hunt down this unseen monster, and she learns that it may be the survivors - living calling cards - who hold the key to the case.

The Son
Jo Nesbo
Harvill Secker - $37.99

Already optioned by Warner Brothers while the Martin Scorsese film of The Snowman is in production and the adaptation of Headhunters was Bafta-nominated, The Son is another stand-alone new thriller from no 1 bestselling crime author Jo Nesbo which sees a charismatic young prisoner breaking out of jail to find out the truth about his father’s death and seek revenge on those who lied to him.
Another superbly told, gripping story from Nesbo.

Unlucky 13
James Patterson & Maxine Paetro
Century - $36.99

When two dead bodies are found inside a wrecked car on the Golden Gate Bridge, Detective Lindsay Boxer doubts that it will be anything as simple as a traffic accident.
The scene is more gruesome than anything she has seen before. It definitely wasn't the crash that killed these people.

I a, a fan of The Women's Murder Club novels of which this is number 13.

The Skin Collector
Jeffrey Deaver
Hodder & Stoughton - $37.99

A new type of serial killer is stalking the streets of New York - one more devious and disturbing than ever before. They call this butcher The Skin Collector: a tattooist with a chamber of torture hidden deep underground. But instead of using ink to create.

Drafted in to investigate is one of my favourite fiction crime busters, NYPD detective Lincoln Rhyme and his associate Amelia Sachs.

The Target
David Balducci
Macmillan - $37.99

The mission is to enter one of the most dangerous countries in the world.
The target is one of the toughest to reach.
The result could be momentous - or it could be Armageddon.
There is no margin for error. US government operatives Will Robie and Jessica Reel have to prove they are still the best team there is. But are they invincible when pitted against an agent whose training has been under conditions where most would perish?
Another of the world's best selling authors at the top of his game.
