Hand and Flower Book Fair
After
missing out last year due to refurbishment The Book Fair at The Hand and Flower
returns for our 6th Fair at this venue. May 21st open noon to 6pm and May 22nd
open 10am to 5pm. Admission is free. Situated opposite Olympia it is easy to
find, and although small (room for just a dozen exhibitors) it has proved
extremely popular as a link in the Book Fairs that make up The Annual
International Book Fair Week in London.
Most of the Exhibitors are not regulars at the London monthly fairs, so their stock is fresh and keenly priced to ensure their annual outing is worthwhile!
The ground floor bar is very popular with booksellers and bibliophiles and provides good quality fare to sustain and refresh. An oasis in the book lovers extravaganza that is the London International Book Fair Week.

Talbot Library books go to Liverpool Hope University
Talbot Library books go to Liverpool Hope University
A
collection of more than 50,000 books which might have been split up following
the closure of a religious library has been saved. In December, Lancaster Roman
Catholic Diocese closed the Talbot Library in Preston, which housed the books.
They will now be housed on permanent loan to Liverpool Hope University. It was
recommended the library should be kept intact after Sotheby’s identified books
of historical and cultural importance.
The diocese said a number of parties had expressed an interest in acquiring the library, which includes a collection of early printed books and a complete collection of Cardinal John Henry Newman’s works. The University said that the library would be kept in temperature-controlled, British Museum-standard conditions, which Hope has established for its other valuable works.
