The Final Lists: The Best of the Best Books of 2011

PublishersLunch
The votes are all in, this year drawing on 47 sources in all, and we're ready to declare our exclusive, consensus Best of the Best Books of 2011 lists. Fiction dominates the overall top 10 this year, with novels claiming the first four spots, and Tea Obreht's THE TIGER'S WIFE as the clear "book of the year." Below we have just the overall top 10 list. In our full version at PM and Publishers Lunch Deluxe, we include separate breakouts for the top 10 novels and works of nonfiction, along with complete credits for the editors and agents associated with those books.
We also share some interesting stories behind the winning titles--the two books that started out at other houses; the two agents who represented two finalists each; the former editor who keeps making the list years after leaving his position; and more.
